The best you can do is to strategically power through them, learning to lead and building for better as you go.I am the Vice President of Finance and Marketing at Stanley Construction Company in Huntsville, AL, a second-generation family-owned business. I direct the finance and accounting department, and manage rental properties and banking and insurance relationships.My marketing and historical documentation efforts led to the selection of my father, Thornton Stanley, as the 2001 U.S. Small Business Administration National Small Business Person of the Year. President George W Bush presented the award in a White House ceremony attended by the entire family. In addition, our family operates Diamond S Farms in Morgan County, which is a 750 acre black angus cattle farm practicing state of the art water and soil conservation installations through USDA National Conservation Resource Service grants with guidance from the Morgan County Extension service.I was appointed by the Madison County Commission to the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau. I held several gubernatorial and mayoral appointments, including the Alabama Constitutional Reform Commission, the Alabama Forever Wild Trust, the City of Huntsville Board of Zoning Adjustments, and also served as Vice Chair of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce.I have earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, MS Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and BS Chemical Engineering, magna cum laude, Vanderbilt University. I am proud to be a board member of the Vanderbilt University Alumni Association, Past Chair of the Vanderbilt University Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Department External Advisory Board, Co-President of the HBS African American Alumni Association. I am humbly a Golden Life Member, Past President of Buffalo Alumnae Chapter, Past National Finance Committee member and Past National Strategic Planning Committee Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I currently serve on the Delta Research and Education Foundation board. I am also a member of the Huntsville Women’s Economic Development Council, The Greater Huntsville Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and a Past Chair of the Women’s Business Council at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
